Broad City stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson took to the stage last week for a stand-up special that combined autobiographical material with celebration of women. Along with some nude photos of themselves – but these don’t show them at their most undesirable: instead they showcase them at their finest to make clear that these two comedians care deeply about uplifting other women and raising up other comedians.
Broad City stands out as an influential comedy series for women. The Comedy Central series centers around Ilana, an outgoing yet low-achieving twentysomething from New York, and her more reserved and responsible best friend Abbi. Their misadventures provide plenty of comedy, absurdist satire, touching moments and real insights regarding love, sex, friendship, work, New York City money race drugs feminism etc.
And as if that weren’t enough, the cast members are also willing to go the extra mile in pursuit of laughter. Glazer and Jacobson recently appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden along with Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones to discuss how they convinced Los Angeles Clippers superstar Blake Griffin to appear naked on their show.
