Dennis Dugan has done an outstanding job of pioneering new forms of comedy on film. Collaborating with well-known comedians like Adam Sandler, he and Dugan have produced many hilarious movies that will surely leave audiences laughing their socks off. One such masterpiece by this duo is “Jack and Jill”, telling a tale about Jack, an advertising executive dreading Thanksgiving because it brings with it his Bronx-dwelling twin sister Jill whom his tactless behavior frustrates. But when actor Al Pacino takes an interest in Jill and wants her help for a Dunkin Donuts commercial, Jack must decide if respect should be extended towards her.

Assistant Professor of Theatre Emily Kasprzak chose this play because it would suit Darby Hope theatre well and she appreciated its minimalist staging with only two actors on stage. Kasprzak found its honest look at real relationships to be particularly compelling, she says. Senior Kayla Jamison who plays Jill had to get used to being close up during rehearsals – something she has done many times before but nothing which involved physical contact between actors and characters before. “This production involves more intimate interactions,” Jamison remarked.

Jack and Jill parties, also known as Stag and Doe events, provide guests with more time with one another while providing a cost-effective alternative to hosting a full wedding reception. It can also serve as an effective way of including distant relatives or coworkers who cannot make it on the big day but might prefer spending their own money on drinks and dinner instead of contributing towards an open bar or honeymoon expenses.
