At this week’s Gentlemen’s Club Expo, one novel idea presented was virtual reality dancers being beamed directly into consumers’ homes using VR. Don Kleinhans, co-owner of Tampa Odyssey 2001’s go-go bar that offers this service, says this service can bring in additional revenue to his club by charging customers to view prerecorded videos of girls performing.
But the new technology may not be reliable in protecting strip clubs against wider cultural shifts, particularly if young consumers continue to turn away from sexual experience. Manack remains confident that clubs won’t completely fade away but is unclear whether any combination of physical, cultural and technological adaptations could sufficiently safeguard against potential cultural shifts in favor of strip clubs.
